I am blogging about Poland

In case anyone is interested :-)

I continued my European travels to Poland this past week... I flew from Frankfurt to Gdansk with Lufthansa (MUCH better than Ryanair and WAY worth the bit of extra dinero I spent... we actually got served drinks and some food, even though the flight was only an hour and fifteen minutes long!! I met my friend Iwona at the airport, who lives in Rumia, a town kinda close to Gdansk. We drove straight to the town of Sopot, which is pretty much a cute little city full of bars and clubs... we walked to the longest boardwalk in Europe, 1/2 kilometer, but it was too windy and we didn't go all the way down it. Swans hang out on the beach, there!!

Pretty much every day in Poland, we slept in really late... I never got up before 10:30, not once... it was a really relaxing trip, and it almost felt wrong to be doing so much sleeping and...nothing. but it really was a nice trip. The second day we went to Iwona's little vacation house, which was really cute and COLD... the house inside was colder than it was outside and was heated by a fireplace. Weird, right? But neat... we drove the car to the beach and walked along the beach for an hour or so and came back, it was pretty tough walking in sand for that long way! I enjoyed it and Iwona and I had a nice chat.

Later that evening we ate some yummy Polish food and watched the movie "Alexander" with Colin Farrell... it was interesting... very long, lol...

Something weird happened to my neck the first two days I was there... not sure what, but on Wednesday I could barely move my neck and when I did, it hurt a LOT... it didn't hurt on the sides, but on the back. No idea what happened, thats for sure, and I had made my mind up that the next morning I'd be paralyzed for life, but I wasn't, of course, I am just paranoid :-) after a few more days, it felt better... it was kinda scary though, because I haven't a clue as to why it hurt SOOOO ridiculously bad.

We went to Gdynia the third day and just walked around there... I finally changed some money over, only €40 though, and at the end, I still had over €25 left, seriously, Poland is THAT cheap. Really not expensive to eat at restaurants or anything. It was more expensive to send a postcard than in France and Italy, though, which was dumb... anyway, that night, we went to a play at Iwona's university, it was a piece by Bertholt Brecht, and I thought it was interesting. Kinda weird, but interesting.

I ate some chocolate in Poland... I got this yummy milk chocolate bar with a strawberry filling... delish! Lately I have been loving chocolate with strawberry anything...

Friday we went to Gdansk... I really liked that city!! It was clean and colorful. We had lunch there (cheap!) and went to a few museums, like the amber museum... there were a lot of places selling amber jewelry, and I wanted to buy a little something, but I never got the chance unfortunately.

Saturday I slept late because Iwona had to be at school for some reason, I ate breakfast with her sister and we went to the little shopping center in Rumia, nothin' to write home about... her sister bought some tiramisu at a bakery and we ate that at home!! Iwona did not get home until 5pm or so, and when she did we watched the movie "The Skulls" which I thought was really good!! Later that night we picked up one of Iwona's friends and went to have dinner at a little mexican restaurant called Pueblo, it was sooooo cute inside... I had chicken quesadillas (was sad to see that the black beans I expected as were described in the menu were actually red kidney beans...:-( ) and we each had a few cocktails... they were NOT cheaper than my beloved Extrablatt nor did they taste that good. Mom, I drank a margarita for you, but yours are better... The best part about the evening was finding enough money under my chair to pay for almost all of what we ordered! We all ate and had two drinks apiece for about 30 Euros... we found 29 euros (100 zloty) under my chair :-) Yippeeeey!

We went to a club after that and I must admit, after getting pushed around by a bunch of pushy Polish people AND having a stiletto slide right into my shoe and into my flesh, I hereby declare that I really hate clubs. They really ignited some rage in me somehow, those people, I just wanted to punch all of them!!! We went home less than 2 hours after we got there, it was just too crowded.

Slept in late again yesterday morning, hung out with Iwona and her sister and caught my flight home... had to wait for a train that was late and thank goodness the other one was late too or I would have missed that one, too, and I had to RUN, fast and looooong to make the bus home, I barely made it and couldn't breathe that well afterward... not to mention how bad it hurts your lungs!!

I am going back to Poland in June, to Krakow...
