Buying my Plane Ticket

Well, I just got off the phone with LTU (Luft Transport Unternehmen). My flight details are as follows:

Depart: Fort Myers Airport June 23 at 4:40pm
Arrive: Duesseldorf International June 24 at 7:40am

Depart: Duesseldorf International July 28 at 10:40am
Arrive: Fort Myers Airport July 28 at 2:45pm

Total Cost: $1076.

I actually called LTU three times today, first to check pricing, then to pay, but I forgot my credit card, then I called again after retrieving my card and I got a nice lady who confirmed the price of $1124,14, to which I replied "Unless you can do anything better!" and she asked me my age and I said "20", and she asked me to hold a moment. She got me a $50 discount for being young :-D scweeeeet!

I was going to book with Condor until I found out that all their Germany flights from Orlando connect in Frankfurt. I'd rather drive to Fort Myers than connect in Frankfurt... plus, its cheaper! I'll have to take a train from Duesseldorf into Muenster, but that's ok, its not a long ride from what I understand.

And to think I was about to book a connecting flight with Condor for $1178 yesterday, which just went up to $1204 today, which is over my credit limit by $4 and I want the cash back from using my card so I couldn't get that flight anyway.

Well no more worrying about getting flights anymore, at least. Now its plan, pack, plan, plan, get a Visa, plan, pack, pack, pack, pack, GO.

Auf Wiedersehen!

Hallooeechen und Willkommen

Hey everyone,

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Caitlin! I am twenty years old and I live in Orlando, Florida. I am a junior at the University of Central Florida with a major in Interpersonal Communication and German. I'll be studying abroad for the majority of the next year, starting in June. I'm going to Muenster for five weeks to take language and culture courses. Then, in September, I'll be flying to Frankfurt and then taking a train to Koblenz to live and study there until the end of March, 2008.

I've never done anything like this before--actually, I've never lived away from my parents before, either. I've never been away from my parents longer than three weeks. I'm an adult now, though, so I think I can do this juuuusst fine!

My history with German, you ask? Well, my mom's side of the good ol' fam is German, and actually, the year she was born was the year the German language screeched to a halt in my family. I remember when I was about ten years old finding out that my grandmother spoke German, and how cool I thought it was. So I decided to learn. Since then essentially, I've been "at it". I've been officially learning for 6.5 years. I have loved every minute of it!

This blog is going to be your connection to me when I leave for Germany. I'm not going on "Reise Nummer 1" till June 23, but this is also going to be my way of journaling and keeping track of what I'm doing. You can come along every step of the way--the hardships, the fun, the homesickness... everything! You'll even be part of my packing experience. You can still email me and go on my Facebook and MySpace and such, this will just be where I post my stories and updates and stuff.

Although I'm going to Germany alone, I don't want the process to be a lonely one. I hope you'll be a part of it!

Stay tuned,
Caitlin
